Fresh Air Adventures

Whether you want to work up a sweat or wander through a peaceful forest, we have an outdoor adventure that’s right for you!

North Grenville’s trails and winding country roads provide opportunities to reconnect with nature during all four seasons, whether you are walking, hiking or cycling. The Ferguson Forest Centre and Limerick Forest each offer beautiful trails for all skill levels – whether you want to break a sweat or just enjoy that sweet spring air.

For a relaxed family walk in the woods, check out the 4 km Tip to Tip trail in Burritt’s Rapids. Enjoyable for all ages, the trail features markers that describe the historic construction of the Rideau Canal.

There are two must-see destinations for gardeners. In Kemptville, Pioneer Nursery specializes in local flowers and vegetables, with over 45 varieties of tomato plants. All products are grown on the premises by expert staff. A short 10 minute drive away to Burritt’s Rapids and you will find yourself the 2015 Canadian Garden Centre Destination of the Year – the Rideau Woodland Ramble. With intricate gardens and a well-stocked garden centre, it is an oasis of calm in this hectic modern world.

Speaking of gardens, visitors of all ages will want to stop at the Giving Garden while in town. A community garden run by volunteers, the Giving Garden invites everyone to “plant a seed or pull a weed” while enjoying the sweet smells of spring!

If you love the water, you can experience the South Branch of the Rideau River firsthand by renting a canoe or kayak at Drifter’s Outdoors Canoe & Kayak Rentals. Bringing your own watercraft? You can launch your boat, canoe or kayak at the free public boat launch at Curry Park. For a complete listing of launch points, please consult the North Grenville amenities map. Once in the water, you can paddle or canoe down the South Branch of the Rideau River right into Old Town Kemptville!

Golfers will have a tough choice to make. Visit the exquisite EQuinelle Golf Club for a championship golfing experience (complete with cutting-edge GolfBoards)? Or revel in the natural beauty of the historic Rideau Glen golf course (with a rumoured connection to a certain notorious American gangster)? Probably best to visit both!

After building up an appetite, you’ll want to pay a visit to one of the many mouth-watering restaurants in the area! For a bistro-style menu crafted from the local ingredients, check out Lock 17 in Burritt’s Rapids. If you’re craving an authentic and exotic meal, visit Nakhon Thai in Kemptville. For a complete listing of North Grenville’s dining options, please consult our where to eat map. You’ll find options ranging from fine dining to drive-thru…and everything in between!

Want a souvenir that’s as beautiful as it is meaningful? The Royal Rideau Chair (pictured above) is handcrafted locally in homage to the Parks Canada Red Chairs Experience Program. Why not bring the serene splendor of the South Branch of the Rideau River home so you can enjoy it year round? To track down your very own Royal Rideau Chair, visit the website of local business, The Best Adirondack Chair Company!
